Tale #7: The "FRESH"ness of our food
Hello, Welcome back.
For today's topic, I am going to talk about a documentary I saw called Fresh. The film is educating people who are not aware of what is happening to farmers. The purpose of the documentary was to inform their audience of the difference between industrialized and organic farming.
I found myself disheartened and concerned due to the millions of things that revolve around farming. All I knew was that they used pesticides but was not aware of those horrific incidents. Many statements that the interviewees had said stood out to me. For instance, a farmer said that they feed cows to cows was a huge red flag because many people believe that they are fed grains. A farmer explained that there is no such thing as cheap food due to people having to keep up this illusion. Each farmer pointed out that the animals are overpopulated. Creating a substantial problem and not preventing those animals from diseases. Another farmer explained that they cut the tails off of pigs to prevent nipping while having them full of antibiotics. He concluded that those antibiotics are incapable of preventing the animals from getting sick. Herbicides continue to pollute, creating over contamination in the land. One thing I found incredible was that the overseas honey has chemicals in it. Honey farmers are losing their beekeeping farms due to a new kind of "honey" that is nothing but coloring and corn syrup.
I believe that it is important that everyone should be educated on this topic to help the farmers have better working conditions and be able to have the number of employees they need in order to continue farming. This is an ongoing problem because farmers are continuing to be paid by the government due to the lack of money they make. They're also being bullied into having to sign unwanted contracts that go against their morals to ensure that their livelihoods will not be ruined. Educating the public on the major differences in organic vs. industrialized farming can help farmers change the way that they can grow crops and drastically improve the environment.
Continuing to educate ourselves and others will help the way farmers raise and kill their livestock. This new view can ultimately change food as well. I hope you learned a lot about the film "Fresh." Till next time, Enjoy!

Hey there! I like that you included the facts about what the honey from overseas contains, and it is a sad fact that the one's producing natural honey are getting shut down and bought out. My question is, why can't we have anything genuine? It's almost like sometimes you wish the population would stop growing so they didn't need to continue utilizing space we could use for natural farming/animal production but what can you do.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteYour comments of the film "Fresh" was an accurate account and I had the same type of emotions after watching the film.
I was shocked about the overseas honey too and can't believe how some of our food is made. It really makes me not want to eat anything.
Good job on your blog.
