Tale #6: We're dying...to paint our nails
Hello Welcome Back,
When quarantine suddenly arrived the rise of "self care" began. Whether it was trying to find a way to cut your hair to finding the perfect technique to getting the perfect Manicure. When I finally began painting my nails I realized that I wasn't able to paint my nails without fumigating myself or being able to get rid of the terrible smell for what felt like forever. It wasn't until I finished my favorite sparkly purple nail polish that I began to research for nail polish that wasn't as harsh. I found this website that goes in depth about the different brands of nail polish and the chemicals it doesn't have while providing you with links to websites where you can buy it.
While I was researching, I found this amazing nail company that has taken the initiative to create safe and friendly products. This amazing nail company is called Kapa Nui Nails, they have pledged to make safe and have easy access to nail polishes for all. They have beautiful colors and created a nail polish remover along with reusable cotton pads to remove the polish thus, not allowing it to be as bad for you and those around you.Nail polish remover has one of the strongest smelling odors and even inhaling it for a short amount of time can often irritate your nose, throat, lungs, and eyes. It may also cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Nail companies have created non-toxic nail polish remover. Kapa Nui nails created a gel like substance to get rid of the nail polish regardless if it has gel or not. After doing research I found that all the chemicals in nail polish and the nail polish remover over time can create long term effects on those doing nails and who gets them. Due to the polish having such harsh chemicals many people are advised to take breaks from getting manicures/pedicures.
Many companies have decided that it is better to create an inclusive brand that is not only safe for you but kids as well. The nail company that I have used is sally Hanson. I used the top coat and I like how it has a thick brush and dries quickly, the top coat does not have the poignant smell like other top coats when you first open them but, if you purposely put your nose to try and smell the bottle the top coat smell will hit you. I'm personally interested in the olive and June company due to The Complete System because of how you can get both the Mani/pedi items and how you get to choose your own colors for the set. A couple other brands that I am interested in and will be trying out are Static Nails which is a nail polish remover company and Piggy Paint which is specifically designed for kids.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your nail blog and found it very interesting since my daughter and I always like getting our nails painted.
I have a 3 year old and I bought the piggy paint for her and I am so glad I am using it on her.
As for my daughter and I, it is important to be careful when getting your mani and pedi's done, especially with all of the dangerous chemicals that are in the nail products.
Thanks for sharing the valuable information.
I am glad I am not the only one who feels the same about nail polish! I will definitely check out these companies! I have a recommendation for you! I suggest looking at a company called Color Street. It is a nail strip company so there is no smell or brush required. There is also no resin light or anything like you see in other nail strips. Everything you need is right there on the nail strip! I highly recommend this product.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThis blog was very interesting and relevant to me because I love getting my nails done! I didn't know there was so much harsh chemicals in these nail polishes so I will definitely be looking out! I usually get acrylics but that makes me wonder if those are even more hazardous. Thank you for sharing this, I will definitely be looking into this!
Hi Iliana!
ReplyDeleteReally great post! I am one that always has to have my nails and toes painted. I knew the chemicals were somewhat bad, but they are worse than we think. Thanks for the linking the other good alternatives I will surely be giving those a try! Really Great post!
Wow! This was an interesting read for sure! As someone who just made an appointment Saturday to get my nails done i'm second guessing that move! I know I don't go frequent enough to feel any long term affects and that the mask help (now,) but I wonder about all those who do them at home like you said you were. I am definitely going to be looking into this topic more as well as the company you provided for us!
